XSmall Crochet Dog Sweater Blog

Welcome this is my blog for a XSmall crochet dog sweater blog.

Do you love dressing up your pets? Do you do it because they look so cute or because they benefit from it. I do it for both!

Dog clothes improve a dog’s quality of life by providing comfortable outdoor exploring during every season no matter the weather.

Dog coats/ sweaters are used to protect against rain and cold weather. They provide extra warmth and a fashion accessory.

This sweater measures 11 inches long and 13 inches around, the length from the tail to the leg holes is 7 inches. This can be easily customizable or visit my other blog post for SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE 🙂

XSmall Dog Sweater:

To begin this pattern we will begin by starting at the bottom of the sweater and work our way up into the leg holes and ending with the collar.

The collar with the fpdc seems to be the most trickiest I will be providing detailed images to help.

Since making this YouTube video I have updated the pattern and that is what is written in this blog post, however this video can help you with the techniques especially with the collar.

Start with a slip knot and then chain 37, in the second chain from the hook make a half double crochet and then half double crochet in the next 35 stitches across. Chain 1 and turn your work.

Row two make a half double crochet in each stitch across, making a total of 36 half double crochet. Chain 1 and turn your work.

Row three make two half double crochet in the first stitch, then make one half double crochet in the next 34 stitches, make two half double crochet in the last stitch. Chain 1 and turn your work.

Row four half double crochet in each of the 38 stitches. Chain 1 and turn your work.

Pattern available.

Row five make two half double crochet in the first stitch, then make one half double crochet in the next 36, make two half double crochet in the last stitch. Chain 1 and turn your work.

Row six through nine half double crochet in each of the 40 stitches. Chain 1 and turn your work.

Completing V opening:

Row ten make a half double crochet in all 40 stitches, then slip stitch to your first half double crochet of the row to make a tube. Chain one and turn your work.

Row eleven through fifteen half double crochet 40 around. Slip Stitch, chain one and turn your work (it is important to make sure you are NOT working in a circle and that you turn your work or your leg holes will not be centered with the V opening at the bottom)

Row sixteen half double crochet in the next 3 stitches, chain 5, skip 5 stitches, half double crochet in the next 24 stitches, chain 5, skip 5 stitches, half double crochet in the last 3 stitches.

Row seventeen through nineteen, half double crochet in all 40 stitches around. Chain 1 and turn your work.

Row twenty (half double crochet two together, half double crochet in the next 5 stitches) repeat pattern around. Chain 1 and turn your work for the last time.

From this point on make sure to not turn your work and be sure your working on the “outside” of the sweater.

Row twenty-one (half double crochet in the first stitch, then front post double crochet around the next stitch) repeat pattern around. Slip Stitch and chain 1.

Row twenty-two and twenty-three since we have made our foundation for the fpdc for the remaining rows make your front post double crochet around the post then half double crochet in the following stitch. (half double crochet in the first stitch, then front post double crochet around the next stitch) Slip stitch and chain 1.

Row twenty-four front post double crochet around each stitch. Chain 1 and fasten off.

Finishing touches:

Attach your yarn to the leg hole with a slip stitch, chain 1 and make 1 half double crochet around each stitch of each leg hole. Slip stitch to the first half double crochet, chain 1 and fasten off.

Now we will add a single stitch around the bottom of the sweater and around the V opening. Join yarn with a Slip stitch, chain 1 and single crochet around making 2 single crochets in each of the two corners.

Using a yarn needle weave in all loose ends.
